THE FATHER OF HOCKEY IN INDIA

Dhyan Chand , the hockey guy who played a major role to win 3 gold medals in Olympics is considered the father of Hockey in India. Also, Dhyan Chand’s birthday is celebrated as a national sports day in Inda. Dhyan Chand was born in Allahabad on 29 August 1905 in a Rajput family. He was the elder brother of another hockey player Roop Singh , and the son of Sharadha Sing and Sameshwar Singh Dhyan Chand's father was enlisted in the British Indian Army , and he played hockey for the army. Star of the Indian hockey team that dominated the sport in the years before World War II, the prolific Dhyan Chand played a key role in India’s three consecutive gold hauls at the Olympic Games - in 1928, 1932 and 1936.
